Dealing with a similar wound but worried if my dog will be ok?

My dog has a wound on her front leg. It’s not bleeding and doesn’t seem to bother her as she will let me look at it, and put neosporin on it and what not. I am just worried about infection. She had a similar wound before and the vet did nothing but dress it. Since I know how to do that myself as long as I keep an eye on it for infection she should be ok, right? Just concerned about my pit that’s all….. I love her to death!

It really depends on the size of the wound and what caused it. If the wound is large enough,deep enough, or is gaping in any way, then your dog needs to go to the vet and potentially get sutures or staples.

If it’s a scrape or a small cut, then what you are doing is fine. Change the dressings daily and be sure that the wound is never an angry red, weeping anything white, yellow, or green, and that it seems to be healing.
